Hey guys, read your article on the Kadron 40 rebuild, and it was very helpful, but it didn't answer all of my questions.

Let me introduce myself a little, my name's Dave, and I'm rerestoring my 1969 Type 1, right now I've got a fresh 1680cc with 1.25 rockers. I have a old set of Empi brand Brosol/Solex/Kadron dual 40s, both carbs are still in excellent shape, and look like they've been rebuilt recently. My understanding of dual carbs is that the carbs need to be tuned to match each other before going on the car for an optimal tune. The pumps dont pump the same amount of fluid and the floats are set differently on each carb. Does anyone know how many cc's of fuel these carbs should pump out per pump? Does anyone know what height the floats are supposed to be set to? Like I said, I want them to bet as equal as possible before I go bolting them on. Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Dave,

Scott wrote up an article on rebuilding and doing initial adjustments for Kads. http://www.german-pride.com/Joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=36&Itemid=70

It should answer what you're looking for.

Also, welcome to German-Pride!

Dave,
It's been a while, but there is no real adjustment "preset" before going on the car.  The floats need to shut the valve off.  You can't see if they are doing their jobs unless fuel pressure is being placed on the valve.  You can adjust the tab on the float to see what works best for your carb.  It's not like the Weber carb set up where it needs to be so many mm away from the carb top.

As for the the accelerator pump, you need to have your linkage attached to the carbs and have the linkage actuate the carb and have the carb acutate the pump lever.  You'll need to visually see the stream that is produced and match that to the other side.  You can make adjustments to the pump rod to get more or less fuel squirted into the carb.  It will take an afternoon of fooling around with it, but it will be well worth the effort!  I drove my Kadron engine as a daily driver for 16 months before I went to my bigger Weber engine.  It was very reliable, a torque monster, and all around awesome!

Thanks and welcome Dave!
