Interesting... I'd like to see how you got the power from the A2 engine to the rear wheels. Are you using a front wheel drive transmission? Or did you hook it up to the stock type 1 transmission?

Hi all! 67SoCal, This bug is 1989 here in mexico until 2003 you was able to purchase a new bug aircooled. YankeeBug, The transmission is type 1 from the original engine 1600. An adaptor was used, to hookup the A2 engine into type 1 transmission http://www.kennedyeng.com/vw_por.htmAt this time my bug or as we call in mexico my "vocho" is with my mechanical, trying to get the better option to increse the power. Due we having problmes with the part i can't give more information, but once we solve this issues i'll be posting more information and photos. Regards!

David, First off, WELCOME to German-Pride! We need more Mexican users! Please tell your friends! That is an impressive project you have taken on there! Is that a fuel injected engine? If so where did you mount the ECM? Where is the radiator? I have a lot of questions! Scott Faivre

Hi Scott,
Please shoot your questions!
The radiator is on the front, the tire which was placed on the front was replaced by the radiator.
Right now the engine has a bocar carburator, we trying to get a cheap fuel injection, but we didn't find it yet.
Regards!

Maybe I can help! I have a junkyard not far from the school that I teach at. Would a USA spec car have parts for your project? I am looking for Vocho fuel injection parts. Maybe we can help each other out? Scott Faivre

That would be great, the only problem it's how to send the parts, i don't know if there is a problem to send used parts to the US from mexico, but i think there is a additional tax for recieving parts from the US.
Let me find out how much it's the tax, but i'll be searching the complete fuel injection system for bug.
Regards and thanks!

David, I stopped by the junk yard near my school today and they quoted me roughly $200 for the complete fuel injection set up from a 88-93 jetta. That included: -injectors -fuel pump (high pressure) -throttle body -ECU (computer) -fuel rails Now my opinion is that is too much money for those parts. The guy at the cash window said it would be cheaper to buy the whole engine for $250. What part of Mexico are you in? I am in Las Vegas, Nevada. What would a local junk yard (in Mexico) charge you for a complete engine or the Fuel Injection parts? Scott Faivre

If i may give my two cents, i guess David should stick with a non US-Spec bug FI system, and instead use an old jetta FI. This because it will be very difficult for him to get spares here in Mexico.

Good Point Gilberto. Do you know what the differences are between the US and Mexican versions? Scott Faivre

Well, i don't know the exact differences but i do know they exist. The mexican bug FI system is a variation fron the a2 golf fi system. It's called digiplus, and i believe it's a variant of the digifant computer found in another early-mid 90's VAG cars. It was also used in the mexican-spec FI version of the bus engine, although it had a different program, to allow more torque i guess. Anyway, for what I've heard the digiplus computer is quite hard to reprogram, so most people with a modded FI engine either installs a golf FI system or downgrades to carbs, the latter being the most used option, probably because of price issues.

Hi all,
Let's update the project.
Right now we solve the issue with the ECU, as we said, we get the solution to the mexican way.
We bought a volkswagen 2002 ECU, this will be only controlling the fuel injector, and the sensors to get the correct mixure oxigen/gas.
Right now my mechanic is biulding all the wires to conect the ECU.
Once this will be complete all fuel injection will be assemble , then the turbo tube will be bult.
And as final step the ECU will be modified to get the correct flow of gas when the turbo get pressure.
Right now i don't have any photos due the car is 600 K/M (375 miles) away from here
Regards!

Hi folks! Finaly, the bug is done. We still have some issues with the ECU, due that the guy who re-flash the ecu didn't do very good. The ecu was changed by an A3 mexican golf ecu. Right now the car is on the street, it runs ok, but it could be better. I'll be fixing this until i have some money, due here in mexico this kind of ecus modification are some kind expensive. Here you are a little video of the engine working. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tj_6SP-nPJARegards!!
