Here's the latest one I did for the new Bugorama event to be held November 1st at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana.
I'd like to thank Rich Grise for hauling his car up so I could shoot it, Scott Moses for driving out, and Victoria and Julia for being so awesome to work with. I'd also like to thank Kenny and Chuck Venard for helping out with the shoot as well.
To be honest with you, I really struggled with this poster. It was hard to get 2 cars on the layout and make it look good. Unfortunately, I couldn't give an equal emphasis on both cars and get everything in. I was originally going to only shoot the convertible, but the Bugorama boys were lucky enough to score Vee Dub Parts Unlimited as a title sponsor. It only seemed logical to use Rich's car as the main emphasis on the poster.
However, I love shooting convertibles from above. And with Scott's totally bitchin' leather interior plus the lovely ladies, it seemed the perfect shot! I landed the shot a top a 6 foot ladder.
But how do you make Nevada look like So Cal? The original concept I had for the poster was the 2 cars on the beach. Since I couldn't pull that off, I thought of trying to shoot the cars with the ladies in the driveway of a high dollar home. We'd shoot them washing the cars with suds and the whole bit. Since I couldn't land a location to shoot, I found the discrete location you see on the poster.
This awesome shot was actually the third or forth choice location, and the rest was just time in photoshop to make it the poster you see below. It sure is a ton of work between getting approval for shooting locations, coordinating vehicle owners and interviewing the models. That's a few hours to a few days work before I ever snap a picture. The shoot lasts a couple hours, and then there is a ton of time spent in photoshop between screening, selecting and tweaking photos. After all that is done, it takes 3-4 nights in creating the poster layout.
It's a crap load of work, but it really is worth it when you look at the finished project.
