Hey Guys, my name is Rich & I have a 1963 single cab thats imported from California to the UK. It's now my daily ride in Wales!  It was used as a work truck I think in Cali & has faded sign writing on the side such as "Mufflers", "Ignition", "Engine" along the bed sides. I've completed the engine re-furb & flipped him and every things be cleaned, painted, up-rated etc etc but when I paint him, I want to put the sign writing back on, but using a garage we'd call it that was open for business back in 1963. Only, my research isn't going to well & was hoping someone maybe able to help me with some ideas of places. If not, I could put a garage thats open now on there....

Hey Rich!
Welcome!  Do you have a picture of your bus with the faded paint on it now?  That might help us out if we can see the font, placement, color, etc.
It  Sounds like a fun project!

Thanks!

Hey Scott, thanks for the reply & the welcome! I have a couple pictures but they seem to big to attach so gotta try & reduce the size. My Bay window & 63 single cab are on Photobucket.com if I'm not able, under ritchieboy_2009 i think. I bought a 65 single cab last night. well, an old guy waited outside a shop by my truck to talk to me about & ended up telling me he had one in his garden, so long story short, I went to look at it & he asked me if I wanted to buy it. It came with a free 1968 beetle! Its also a Cali import. It was restored then he parked it up in his garden, for 6 years!!!! What a waste.

Its faded, rusted in 3 places you'd expect but other than peeling paint & a lil filler on the nose, its in great shape. The engine looks like it just rolled out the factory. & I paid about half what its worth.

With any luck, I'll be heading out to California next month for a couple days & hope to visit some iconic VW places over there

Thanks again for your help, I'm fairly new to the scene & absolutely loving it

Wow Ritchie!  Congratulations on the big score!!!

If you want, shoot me an email with those pics and I can resize them for you.  Then we'll get them up and help you out in any way we can.  Include a pic of your "Free Beetle" too! Grin

What are the dates you are over here?  We might be able to help you out with letting you know what events are going on.

Take care,

Hey Scott,

Well I may be in Vegas on the 27th for a couple days & L.A in the second week of August but not sure yet. I thought the Beetle Barn might be a cool garage to put on the side of my newest truck & hopefully somewhere in California for my 63. I'll send the pics via e-mail in a little bit. The only bit's of the writing remaining are the services, I might see some evidence of more when I rub the doors down i guess.

Was trying to get my 63 cleaned up for the biggest show in the uk in 2 weeks.

Thanks again for the help...........
