I just finished another side job, and I now have enough money to start the assembly of my motor that I've had in parts for 5 years!  I have a 2275cc engine ready to assemble.  I think I might really take my time on this and photo all of the process to get some great content for the main portion of this website.  I'm going to document the entire build up on here.  I thought a lot of you might enjoy this kind of thing.  I'm no master engine builder, but I do a lot of homework before fitting parts together and the motors that I have assembled are rock solid.

So before I go ahead and start countless hours of engine building write up....   Is this something that you would care to see?

Thanks!

Okay, I will do it!  Grin

My engine is a 2275 comprised of these parts:
  • 82mm Stroke Crankshaft - Demello Balanced and Counterweighted
  • 94mm Cima/Mahle - Pistons and Cylinders (known as "B Pistions" because the wrist pin is moved closer to the top of the piston)
  • CB Performance "H" Beam Connecting Rods
  • Engle 120 Camshaft
  • A stock VW full-Flowed Engine Case (oil galleys have been drilled and tapped so I can use a "spin on" oil filter)
  • CB Performance 044 Cylinder Heads with 44mm intake and 37mm exhaust valves (Ported and Polished by Anthony Chica of Head's Up Performance)
  • CB Performance Big Beef Intake Manifolds (Port matched to my 044 cylinder heads by Anthony)
  • Weber 48 IDF Carburetors

I don't think I'm going to use that camshaft anymore.  I think I want to use an Engle FK-8 or FK-89.  I also have 2 set's of ratio rockers that I can use.  I will need to check them for coil bind though.

This will be the first creation of this motor.  Down the road sometime (1+ year) my next reincarnation of this same motor will be junkyard Turbo and EFI with some help from my wife's cousin.  Grin

Sounds COOL Scott.

Maybe I can document my stroker conversion here on your site?
You know I am crazy when it comes to digi pics.
I plan to 'get it on' Thanksgiving weekend.

I am going with
  • 78mm CB crank
  • 94mm Mahle B pistons
  • CB 044, 40X35.5 - not too large, going for BUS torque
  • CB Race Rods H Beam
  • Engle 110
  • 1.25:1 rockers

Let the Aluminum FLY! ! ! !

Get that out of your head!  It is NOT "My Site"... It's "OUR SITE!"   Grin
This site is my gift to a hobby that has given so much to me!  This site only as good as it's member users.  Without you guys, it's a bunch of fancy code, pretty pictures, and my wasted hours.

Now if we want to talk about domain name registration, and paying for the hosting....  Well yeah, it's "my site."  Grin Tongue

I would love it if you submitted an article on the 2 liter upgrade!  You can either post it as you go, here in the Performance WorkShop forum, or you can submit it through the user menu on the mainpage of the site.

TOO COOL!  THANKS GREG!!!  If you do that, I can relax a little before putting my big motor together, and can spend some more time finishing the theme set up for this site!  It's going to be virtually seamless!  Wink

I think something that is not covered enough is allowable bearing clearances and the proper use of plastiguage.

Also rod bolt stretch and techniques that you think are necessary to achieve proper rod bolt stretch.

Well, I'm not skilled enough to build it myself, but here's the specs on the motor that Darren at DRD racing heads is building for me to go into my '68 baja turned street/strip car:

2276 with DPR wedgemated crank and compression ratio set at 10.2:1, 5.4" H-beam rods, 1.4 ratio rockers, Webcam 86c, 48 IDF's, custom (baja style) 1 3/4" A1 ceramic coated exhaust with 2 1/2" magnaflow muffler, and custom heads by Darren at DRD.  The heads are not part of his usual offering.  They have 44/37.5 valves and I've been told they flow 215 CFM with really good airspeed.  Darren believes the engine will make around 215 HP once it's dyno tuned.

The trans is from KCR and it's one of the Superstreet Plus boxes with a basically stock gearstack (3rd is 1.32 though) and a 4.12 ring and pinion.  I'll be running the quarter through 3 gears and have 4th for cruising speeds.  I'll be using a Stage 2 pressure plate with what I believe is a Daiken disk.  Tires are 185/65's up front with drop spindles and disc brakes.  In the back I have BF Goodrich Drag Radials in 235/60 (remember, it's been baja'd so I don't have the clearance issues that one would with regular fenders).
