Kenny,
Which pushrod tubes are you using ?
Do just what Scott sugested and get the JayCee tubes. They are more expensive than most but are also re-buildable when need be.

Sorry for the late response.

They were stock ones. The seals were split on the block side for the intake and exhaust on #1.

Spent from 6:30 'til about midnight replacing them, new J-tubes and general tune-up stuff. Seems to run fine now, but once I got the car back to the apartment, there was a little oil built up on the pushrod tubes. Just wet though, and not dripping.

I'd have loved to pick up some Jaycees, but I don't know of anyone in vegas with 'em, so I just got empi ones to hold me over until after the bug-in. Then i'll do a proper replacement and find out if this really is a 2110. Cheesy

See y'all on Friday evening.

Hey guys!  Sorry for the delayed response in writing...

Thanks to everybody that came out.  I hope you had a great time.  I feel like a lousy host as I spent the whole night in the garage with Shawn Bergerson (aka ANGER MANAGEMENT) and Joel Mohr (aka QUIK N DIRTY) and his side kick Eric.  Not that those guys were poor company, but I was looking forward to sitting around drinking some beer and bench racing with everybody.  If it wasn't for the work of these guys, I'd never had made it to the race on Sunday.  I owe BOTH these guys some serious "faivres!"  The wife reported somewhere in the neighborhood of 80-100 people showed up at the house.  Everyone we talked to seemed to LOVE her Carne Asada!  Muchas Gracias to my wife Christine and our friend Misty for making this all happen!  Lance, she's going to be sending you a package.  Be on the look out for it! Wink

For those that don't know, that 2 liter engine we were thrashin' on, was an 18 year project that FINALLY came to fruition.  Most of you may recall my posts over the years about never having any money as a school teacher, so my new sales gig finally paid off!  I was able to buy the rest of the parts I needed and finish the dang thing!  Although, our resident supertuner Joel believes there is a clogged idle jet on the #1 cylinder, the thing pulls like a freight train!  My tranny is believed to be stock, so I babied it off the line.  My best pass of the day was a 14.5 @ 94 MPH.  I AM VERY PLEASED! Grin  I want to also that Joel for coming back over and helping me tune the car on Saturday, which unfortunately lead to snapped clutch hooks, bad throttle cables, etc, etc.  This car fought us the whole way!  Thanks a million Joel!

It was quite a high that I ended the weekend with... and then Monday came.  My daughter Dominique went to the doc to recheck her wierd blister on her hand.  It winds up being a nasty staff infection and they admitted her to the hospital.  She was hooked up to an antibiotic IV drip all day.  Yesterday evening the hand surgeon opened her up as the infection had gone down to the ligament.  He flushed it and she's been soaking it and purging it all day (open wound now.)  She's a tough kid, and has a great attitude, but we're waiting for the doc to show up and re-evaluate her to see if we can take her home.  If not she'll be here a few more days.  This is some seriously scarey crap here!

It's amazing the swing of emotions I've been through in the past 48 hours.  One thing I know is that VW guys are the best guys you can have on your side!  Thanks for all the nice texts, and emails guys, I've shared them with Christine.  You guys rock!

Scott,

A big thanks to you, Christine, and Misty for all the grub, beer, and camaraderie. I had a blast out there and could only wish I could have done a little bit more to help you guys out on your engine. However, it was great to be there for the break-in and hear/see it run. Thanks, also, for the encouragement to make it up there. That was one heck of a weekend!

Sorry to hear about your daughter. I hope everything turns out fine.

Well, we're home!  Dominique is quite the good sport about the whole thing.  We've got to go back to the docs tomorrow for stitches removal and just a progress check.  We have to continue to bring her back in for the doc's inspection for the next 4 days.

She was a trooper with her soak-n-squeeze treatment tonight.  (Got a soak her hand in an anticeptic solution and then open and close her hand repeatedly to push the "nasties" out of the open wounds from the insicions.)  It sounds pretty gross and it is.  Grin

I think "coaching" from her daddy to push it a little harder helped.  Mom said that it looked better after I worked with her than when she did it earlier in the day.

As I guy that now works in the medical field, it's amazing to think that something like this nasty staff infection could have caused kids to loose fingers or a hand just 50 years ago.  THANK GOD FOR MODERN MEDICAL SCIENCE!  Cool

Keep the thoughts and prayers coming!  They're very much appreciated!  Wink

P.S.  Please look through your photos from the weekend and send me any cool shots of the BBQ, the Hooptie Racing, the open houses, Tom Carsten's Saturday car show at the District, The LVVWC's BBQ at the Wagen, etc.  Since I was tied to the car all weekend, I never got to see much.  Cry  I'd love to include some of your pics in a write up about the weekend.  THANKS!

Glad to hear she's doing good and making her way through the cleaning and stuff. I don't know much about staff other than what was all over the news a little while back. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys.

I'm going to 'process' all the vids I shot and need to know what you'd want from them as far as format. I have quicktime pro, so I can do .mp4 and also xvid .avi files. Lemme know what might be easier to work with. Maybe you can do another compilation video. I think I can do WMV as well, but i've never tried it.

I posted my pics up to photobucket. Unfortunately, half of them didn't save. Cry http://s111.photobucket.com/albums/n121/ninja90177/Bug-In%202008%20Vegas/?start=all

Those are WAY scaled down, but the originals are huge and clean. I'll burn ya a DVD with everything I got this weekend and try and drop it off this weekend sometime.

NICE!  I LIKE! Grin  Gosh Dang that was fun! Grin

As for the video, avi, mpg, should be fine.  It would be cool to make a compilation video.  Good idea.  Thanks for being there Kenny! Kiss LOL!

Dominique got a good report for the Doctor and has done a great job with the soak-n-squeeze again today.  Her swelling has gone down dramatically.  Thanks for the kid words! Wink

Awesome Scott! With 6 nieces, it's always difficult for me to hear of an illness amongst the youngins. As close to kids as I have now.

I'll get you a dvd burnt with something you can use then.
