CY,
To the best of my knowledge, a 1301 is a 1971-1972 Super Beetle.  A 1303 is the later model Super Beetles from 1973 and up.  My first VW was a 1974 Super Beetle.  Here in the states we call them "Super Beetles" because that's what VWoA market them as.  In the rest of the world the 1301 and 1303 designations were used.

What makes a Super Beetle so "Super"?  Well, the major difference was the front suspension.  These cars used a McPhearson strut front suspension, where as the standard Beetles used the leaf spring beams that we're so used to.  The 1301 had a flat windshield and looked the same from inside the car.  But the 1303 had a curved windshield and different dashboard.  Feel free to check out my 74 Super here.

What year 1301 or 1303 are you looking at purchasing?

well..
i didn't know there's 1301!!!
i thought there's only 1302 and 1303...
anyway my question is what's the difference between 1303,1303S,1303LS...
heard from somewhere that 1303 and 1303S were different in the sense of 1303 has 4 drums while 1303S has front Discs...
is that it??
then what about 1303LS?

CY, you may have it right.  It might not be a 1301, it's probably a 1302.  My brain is just fried with all this medical jargon they've mashed into my skull with my new job. Grin  I'm right on the rest of the stuff though.

As for the designation about the disks, all USA Beetles had 4 wheel drum breaks.  Only the Karman Ghias had disks.  Maybe someone from that side of the globe will chime in and educate us. Wink
