More progress being made, but I'm really pinching it close on time!  Shocked  I don't like that feeling! Undecided

Oh well, get it done!  I need to really thank my buddy "stripped 66" for coming over and assisting me with the rocker arm geometry.  It's been over 10 years since I last put a motor together, and I've forgotten how to properly set up rocker arm geometry.  With his help, I was able to get that squared out and 15 of the 16 heads studs all torqued down.  What happened to the 16th one?  It started to fail on me.  The threads started to go south.  Angry

I'll hit a local shop tomorrow and see if I can score a couple of stock 8mm studs to try out.  I'm inching closer to the big day of when I get to start it for the first time! Tongue  Nerves are building! Wink

Longblocked!  I need to drop the other engine, install my new Bugpack Kafer Bar, install the MSD, and reseal the axle side plates.  I'm hoping to finish early today and get a lot more done tonight.

Okay, I took today off to keep pushing to get this friggin thing done!

The old engine is out, the new bugpack truss bar is installed...

Now I need to switch the tin over to the new engine and stick it in.  I also need to wire up my MSD.  Should I do that first? Huh

Awesome news Scott!

You gonna carb it for now? Until you got time to play with the EFI?

Godspeed man, can't wait to see it running.

Got the bellcrank SCAT linkage installed and adjusted to run BEHIND the shroud.  I bought a new tower breather thingy from VDub Parts Unlimited, and I can't run the hex bar stuff.  I'm a little concerned about the angle of the throttle cable coming from the transmission though.  I'll figure it out.

What's left:
- Install my fuel rotary pump
- Install my MSD 6AL
- Mount my Spin on oil filter
- Adjust the floats in my Webers
- Stick the engine in

I've got tonight and tomorrow to get it done.  Wink

Engine is in the car, but my friggin' linkage won't work like this.  Angry  There was a butt load of trim and fitting of tin in order to get the A1 header on the car.  I got up at 4:30AM headed to Havasu, made all my calls there, drove back, and went back too work.  The friggin' engine fought me for 45 minutes when I was trying to install it. GRRR!!!!  Angry

I've got a full day tomorrow, and softball tomorrow night and Wednesday night.  I'll have all the crap in the car when you guys get here on Friday, but I don't think I'll have fired it up yet.  Maybe we can have the Doctor from Bad Bergie Performance take a look at it and help me with my break in and initial tune.   Cool

Pinchin' it down to the wire!  Shocked

Tell Shawn he's a life saver! Can't wait to fire this 18 years in the making, fighting me tooth and nail, royal pain in the buttocks project from hell.   Grin   I sincerely appreciate the help.  He doesn't drink beer, but what's his poison?

Okay, so TALL big beef manifolds don't work with short scat center pull linkage.  And that freakin' linkage WON'T work behind the shroud due to clearance issues with the firewall.  Grrrr!!!  Angry   So now, I have to ditch my pretty breather, and buy a cheap breather, and a hex bar linkage.

Even worse, none of the local shops have a complete CB cross bar linkage set up.   Cry  I'm awaiting a call tomorrow for my last place, that might stock it.

I need this:

It's CB PART # 6480  (Cross Bar Linkage for Straight Manifolds (with air cleaner bases))

Anybody got one laying around?  Undecided

Scott,
I just left you a message. Have you called Vee-Dub Parts yet.
My buddy might be able to bring it home with him tonight, and I can bring it out tomorrow.

After numerous phone calls, I wound up ordering a hex bar kit from CB directly, and its being shipped.  This friggin' car has been fighting me the whole way.  But it's gonna get done!  Driving me friggin' bonkers!  Tongue  Is it beer time yet?

Well, should update the thread at least and let everyone know that I did get the engine done with the help of Joel Mohr and Shawn Bergeson.  THANK YOU GENTLEMEN!  I'll delay the performance stats until I update the gallery with the remaining assembly pics.

I'm now going to start a new thread that will get back to the original purpose of this thread.  I'm ready to start making the transistion to the EFI Turbo....  as money will allow. Grin
