El Maestro - The Teacher

WWW
« on: January 12, 2008, 11:02:09 PM »

As most of you know, I am a teacher.  I like what I do, but I hate the poor salary. Undecided  Some of you might also know that I've been interviewing and attempting to get into a new career in Pharmaceutical Sales.  Well for the past 2 years, I've gotten my foot in the door, and made an impression on a great company.  Since November I've been concentrating on obtaining this job.  Pharmaceutical sales jobs are some of the MOST COMPETITIVE jobs to obtain.  Why am I telling you all this?  Because I wanted to explain why things had been a bit slow around here on German-Pride.  I've been doing a bunch of behind the scenes upgrades to the site to make it more secure and stable.  I've also been doing some work for some web design clients of mine.  (I've got a big one I'm working on right now!)

So as you can see my time has been scattered in many directions and I took some time to enjoy family at the Holidays. Smiley

Back to my job search... This weekend, I am locked up in the house with a pharmacology book.  I was very nervous because I hadn't seen the book, and heard about the 200 pages of material to learn in 72 hours that's based in a language of pharmacology...

But to my delight, I finished the book today and understood EVERYTHING I read!  Now, granted there is a lot of information to remember.  I'll spend the remainder of my weekend trying to memorize all the details.  Test is on Monday at 4:45 PM.  If I get an 85% or better I can continue on in the process which includes a meeting with the regional VP.  If he likes me, then the Sales manager has the OK to extend me an offer if she feels I am the best canidate for the job.  I'm in no way guarranteed anything.  She could hire someone else.  It's competitive!

<fingers crossed> Wish me Luck! Wink

Well, I did my part.  I got a 94% on the test this evening!  I still am not guaranteed anything, I just jumped a hurdle. Wink  I'm tired!  Going to bed!

Good Luck!

Thanks Eric!

I've got my last interview on Monday.  It's with the company's regional VP from TX.  If he gives his approval, I'll have an offer on Tuesday.  I am excited to say the least!

Take care,

I received a verbal offer today, and I will have an actual offer tomorrow! Grin  Could my days as a school teacher be coming to an end?  Huh

Stay tuned... Grin

I just upgraded my salary!

After 2 years of interviews, testing, resume tweaking... I'm a teacher NO MORE! Grin  I'm now a pharmaceutical sales rep! (I start 2/18/08)

"Ask your doctor if Valtrex is right for you." Grin

Could there be another VW on the track in the future?  Undecided  We'll see!  I know for the first year, I'm going to be swamped with a ton of stuff to study, work on, etc.  So I maybe headed under ground for a while.  Wish me luck!

Got just a second here to give everyone an update on my status...

I recieved my company car: a 2006 Mercury Mariner with 38,000 miles on the clock.  Not bad.   Wink  I'm no Ford guy by any means, but it is my other favorite "F" car... and that would be "F R E E"!  Grin

I worked mostly 16 hour days, with a couple of 12 hour days slipped in there.  Well all that studying paid off because I got a 98.8% on Anatomy and Physiology exam on Tuesday.  (You need to score 85% or better or else you get fired.  Shocked )  With a wife, a kid, and a mortgage to pay I wasn't going to let that happen! Wink

Also just for fun, I threw out my back something fierce!  I've got either a herniated L5 disk in my back or a pinched siatic nerve.  All I know is that my left leg burns like a fire ant army has seen it as their "all you can eat" buffet.  I'm on meds and therapy for that.

This week I spent studying Advair, used to treat asthma, and I'll be taking a test on it on Tuesday.  Again, I need an 85% or better in order to keep my job.   Undecided  Gotta get back to studying!  Wink
