I remember a few years back the Torque Meister was developed and marketed by Kymco.  It's a torque multiplier that is composed of a gear and lever system.  It supposedly adds 9 times the torque that you apply to the gear.  It was recommended for axle nuts and flywheel gland nuts.  If I recall they were like $80 bucks from Kymco and since then Empi, Bugpack and who knows who else has made cheaper Tiawanese copies.  I don't even know if Kymco is still in business.

Are they worth the hassle of set up and expense or am I better off with my breaker bar and a long piece of pipe over the top of it?

Scott- this is by far the best tool investment I have made since I got back into VWs.

Whether setting end play or having to remove an axle nut for brakes, seal problems etc., this tool is the schiznit!

25lbs. of input with a 3/8 drive torque wrench and 11mm socket puts you in business.

I'd get the bolt on flywheel lock too so setting end play is even easier.

got the 50$ one from Serrano a while back and is a nifty tool. I torque my gland nut to bet. 400-450 ft-lbs. and this coupled w/ a 1/2 retchet drive reduces much of the strain I had before using the breaker bar method.

good investment if you build/re-build engines quite often (it also comes with an adaptor for using on 5-lug drum axle nuts).

I bought an original Torquemeister many years ago directly from Kymco. I can't imagine how I managed without. Only thing I regret is not buying the toothed plate for axle nuts at the same time

Hey Greg,
Any chance I could bribe you with a beer or 2 to bring that thing over here? Grin

I don't know if you saw that post about me stripping out my brake drum, or not, but I've got a new drum and I'd like to be sure I've got that bad boy torque securely down!  Cheesy

Got a few minutes this weekend?  I'm off on Monday too! (Oh the life of a school teacher.)

Take care,

Scott........If you can't get ahold of one, I can ship you mine to borrow and return when you're done.  Just let me know.   Wink
