Hope somebody can shed some light on this question...will a stock 1500 fan, shroud & oil cooler keep up with a 1776 cc engine? Said 1776 engine has an oil sump, external oil cooler & blower for the external oil cooler. I'm not sure if my stock fan and shroud can keep a 1776 cc engine cool or is there a need to modify or replace something to make the 1776 run cool. My bug has no air-conditioning, thus no extra engine load...Help!

Dino,
Many High Performance engine builders here in the USA, don't even use the stock oil cooler when you use an external oil cooler with an electric fan.  I would say that you would have no problem cooling your 1776 with a non doghouse fanshroud PROVIDED THAT:
1.)  You do not have a high Compression Ratio
2.)  Your engine is tuned properly
3.)  Your choice of cylinder heads is suitable for the street
4.)  You are running all of the OEM cylinder tins and your engine compartment is sealed properly with the rubber that goes between the body and the engine tins.

Thanks scott! The points you've given definitely will be of help. I'll consider using a doghouse fanshroud because the 1776 engine is used in drag races by the previous owner (just to be sure)... Grin

Scott,

Already bought a used set of doghouse, dual-port cylinderhead tins for the 1776 engine. Thanks for the advice! The new engine can be installed in my bug this week! I'm already excited to test ride it and feel the power difference...
