So I started my very own GL project last december, and as I have made a couple improvements I have decided to post them here. It aint gonna have expensive porsche brakes or a type iv engine, this one is budget-friendly, at least on it's first stage. It is inteded to be a daily driver, to take me to medschool basically, so it must be as reliable as possible, and it's gotta keep up with modern cars, in terms of performance, and it is not intended for racing.

The base is a 1990 Mexi bug, ball joint front, swingaxle rear, drums all around, DP 1600cc 46hp engine, electronic ignition.
What has been done so far:
Racing Seats, front and rear disc brakes, with 28mm solid rotors, two pot calipers front, one pot calipers with ebrake rear. Dropped spindles front, lowered 2 splines rear,  3/4 front swaybar, CB camber compensator, sports steering wheel and pedals, basic audio system, shaving of most chromes, and the vents behind rear side window.  Oh, and it's also got a carPC

What's still left: Gas shocks, 1904cc engine (~145hp), 17'' wheels, 205-45-17 HP tires, exterior and interior details, nice audio system.
Pics:

Couple pics of how it looked before starting

It's got some bumper covers that will be removed when the time comes

Those are bumper covers by automagic. I think memo imports sells them in the US. Anyway, they will get removed when the time comes.

Gilberto,
What is the latest news on your car?  Have you started to assemble it?  The Mexican beetle is a great car to start with because it is already dechromed!  Grin

Hi scott sorry for the vary late reply. I have changed the wheels, now i'm on 17's with hankook 205-40 tires. The car is at the body shop right now, its having its rust removed and painted again. Im waiting for my kyb gr-2 shocks and dragfast shifter to arrive. Then i hope i can start working on the engine.

Actually my car was one of the latest chromed models, but i've got that fixed already, as well as the rear quarter vents removed, as you can see.

Have you considered fuel injection rig from a '75-on Super Beetle?
