I've been doing a lot of thinking about my little 1776 engine.  I need some better heads for this motor, but I don't have any sort of budget left to use for it.  I'm conserving my $$$ for my 2275 build up that I hope to start within a month AND the convertible resto that I hope to get back to at the same time.

Soooo, I thought that I'd give amatuer head porting a shot.  I'm not looking to create anything real elaborate or wild, just a simple port and polish.  Therefore, I'm going to be needing some new rotary files to do the job.  Ordinarily, I'd buy some come inexpensive bits at Harbor Freight to use, but I hate using metal tools that loose their sharpness in only a few minutes of use.  That happened with some rotary files that I bought from Home Depot when I had to rebuild the nutserts in my running board fastening plates.  So, I'm going to need to locate some decent rotary file bits.

Anybody know of a brand name that makes quality bits?  I don't need top of the line tools, just something that will last for the duration of this job.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention...  That I want to do this as an article for the site, and I will not change a thing on the current 1776 engine other than these heads.   Then I will put the car back on the dyno, and we'll all get to see what kind of HP/TQ numbers I get.  We can compare those numbers to my "baseline" run that I made in the fall at the Vegas Volks Dyno Day.  Sound interesting to you?

Sounds like fun to me, but lets not get too carried away with the thoughts of me making some huge gains.  Remember this is a daily driver street car!  Kiss

Maybe checkout MSC or Wholesale Tool, they seem to carry several different brands of rotary files, usually a couple imports and then some made in USA stuff.  I don't remember brand names but as you know, you get what you pay for.
Good luck and I look forward to seeing your results.

I bought a used beat up stock head at Drag Day last weekend.  I'm going to use this one to cut up and use in article about cylinder head porting.  I've just got NO ENERGY right now.  My year of set backs continues... I just got back from the doctor: I've got Bronchitious and Larengitious!  Roll Eyes

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!  Grin

The good news is that I get to stay home from work tomorrow!  Tongue
