Type 4 Upright conversion into a Type 1 Beetle

If any one out there knows of a good, no make that a really good shop that is doing this kind of work please let me know.  I also would like to find a reputable type 4 engine builder....Please don't say Bernie Bergmann, I've got two very close friends that have had really bad luck with his product.

Here in the states, lots of guys know Jake Raby as the leader in the Type IV market.  While the guy has a huge superiority complex, he is good with Type IV VW engines.  The guy knows a lot more about engine building than I'll ever know, he rubs me the wrong way with his posts on the various forums.  It's like he thinks he's Gene Berg or something. 

I have never heard of a complaint about his work, other than he is NOT cheap. 

With the high cost of going Type IV, and a limited selection of parts why not build a 2 Liter Type I like Greg did here on this site?  See this thread: http://www.german-pride.com/Joomla/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=63&topic=56.0

Good luck with your project regardless of which way you decide to go.  Will you share pictures?

I agree with your statements there Andre.  Jake is known the world over for his success with the Type IV engine.  I've got a buddy here in town that has a Raby Type IV in his bus.  If I recall the motor was $7500.  It runs great and all that.  I just think Jake would catch more flies with honey... 

I've never heard any complaints with Jake's work other than the cost.  But you'll get what you pay for!
