Kadron, carburetors are probably the easiest dual carburetor set ups to use on an aircooled VW engine. They are a simple single barrel design, which makes them easy to install, set up and tune. You may also hear the names "Brosol" or "Solex" when referring to the dual Kadron carburetors. In this article, I will show you what I know about installing and troubleshooting your carburetors.
At the time I was writing this article, I was experiencing problems with my dual Kadron set up in my 1966 Beetle. After 14 months of non-stop daily driving with my Bug, I developed a hesitation when trying to accelerate, and a decrease in power. My problem was also added to when I installed a new fuel tank sending unit (the bobber) and I wasn't able to calibrate it to the new Brasilian fuel gauge that I put in the car upon 14 months ago. To keep the story short, I ran out of gas! When you do that, you pick up all sorts of crud that has settled to bottom of your fuel tank and introduce it to your fuel system. Yuk! What a better excuse to write an article for German-Pride? My loss is your gain. :) So your carbs are giving you problems. What are you to do? The first thing you need to do is make sure that your overall condition of your engine is in good working order. Check your valve adjustment, your compression, your spark plugs, and your end play. German-Pride.com introduces the new featured gallery "YOUR PROJECTS" in the gallery section. Many of you have seen some of the fine cars that have been recognized on the pages of Hot VW's and UltraVW magazines. We cought up with the owners as asked them if they would be willing to share the pictures of their vehicle's build. I think of this section as the VW world's answer to the TV show "Overhaulin." In 30 minutes you can view a complete restoration of a Vintage VW. I hope this featured gallery will motivate new enthusiasts to build top notch cars and recharge the batteries of those running out of energy during a long restoration.
So grab a beverage, get comfy, and click on over to the "Your Projects" section of the gallery! So far we have contributions from: Darrell Baker, Matt Davis, Darren Dilly, Scott Faivre, Lance Gregory, Karl Heinlein, and Greg Stogren. Have a top notch car? Or Know of one? Got Photographs? If so please contact, Scott Faivre. |

Goodbye VW Beetle! On Wednesday July 30th, 2003 the last Beetle left the production line at Volkswagen de México in Puebla. The Mexican workforce gave a festive farewell for the 21,529,464th Beetle with flowers and mariachi music. The best-selling model will now make a last journey over the Atlantic to Wolfsburg where it will have a place of honour in the Automuseum. |
