VegasVolks Turkey Day Torque Fest

If you live in Las Vegas, Nevada and are into aircooled Volkswagens, it doesn't take long to know that the VW scene here is very strong.  Monthly meetings are held by various clubs which are backed by VW Dealerships!  The "Big Daddy" of all the events comes every October, with the Las Vegas Bug In which is held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

In the shadows of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a whole host of businesses catering to the hardcore gearhead.  Richard Petty and Andretti schools of performance driving, Carol Shelby's testing labs, and quite a few businesses geared toward build and tuning HORSEPOWER!  One of those businesses is Silver State MotorsportsSSM is owned and run by a father and son team both named Mike Arnett.  Today, Mike and Mikey Jr., allowed us to give their Dynojet 248C Chassis Dynamometer a VW workout.  They felt confident that with their software upgrades to the dyno, that we wouldn't exceed their 1800 HP capabilities.  I think that's a fair assumption!

Bill Tsagrinos of VegasVolks.com managed to pull 9 contestants out of the local area to put their cars on the dyno and have at it.  I brought "the Hooptie" (my 66 sedan) out to partake in the fun.  I've always seen the process on TV and never tried it for myself.  Now I know that I wasn't going to spin the drums off of the dyno, but my little 1776 is a little "torque meister," and it would be neat to see what kind of power it was making.  I guessed somewhere in 70 HP range with an equal foot pounds of torque rating.
